A while ago, Michelle emailed to a lot of HADSA about the Miracle belt, a weighted belt that is helping a lot of kids, including those with Down Syndrome. We had tried weighted vests for Ben before, but he has such low muscle tone, he just slumped. We have been trying this belt (Ben's PT ordered it) and really are impressed. A few examples:
Ben has lower muscle tone on left than his right side. So, he kicks only with left foot, feeling more secure on his right. Wearing this belt, he was doing little kicks with his right foot (playing ball). I can see this improving. He felt more confident on stairs too!
We have Ben in Miracles in Motion and had him try the belt while on his horse. He usually loves riding, but doesn't pay much attention to what they want him to do for an obstacle course. This time he did every thing they asked him to do (except blow bubbles, which is hard for him--but he wanted his side walkers to blow bubbles!). The instructor noticed the big difference in him and really thought it was the belt helping him too.
The web site for this is

Ben's PT gave me some coupons for 10% off an order if you use the code

There are videos on the site and a lot of testimonials by therapists.
They do have a child with Down syndrome showing what happened when he started wearing it. Age 10, never walked independently, walking in 3 days.
The belt really helps kids find their core and balance. Ben's PT was really enthusiastic about it, and really liked the feel of it when she put it on herself.
Hope I help somebody by sharing this! _________________ Cynthia Anderson
